RedBus Security Breach

On 16th Oct, I read on web somewhere that, India's very popular bus and hotel booking site RedBus.in's database has been hacked. As I also uses RedBus service regularly, for the sake of curiosity, I dig out more whether this news is correct or fake, I took a peek on account hacks/breach whistle blowing site hacked-emails.com and verified it with my own mail ID.

And, that was correct. The breached data statistics is there. It says that, breach was done on 9th Oct and it got listed on site on 15th Oct. More than 13.72GB of user data including customer email IDs.

- Breach Statistics -

As, all these were unofficial news and RedBus had not declared the breach officially, I didn't took this news much serious. But, today morning, I got the mail from RedBus stating they found unauthorized access to site's databases and cleared that the customer's mail IDs may have been compromised.

- RedBus's official statement -

However, this breach is not a big issue as RedBus always stores hashed passwords rather than plain text passwords. Also, they never stores customer's transnational credentials such as credit/debit card details. That's what I liked very much about RedBus.

Now, just for security purpose, I am going to change my RedBus account password (...though, it is not absolutely required). Now, go fast and change your password also. Also, say thanks to RedBus giving very simple and sweet booking service and not to storing your any of your confidential data.

World's highest IQ holder is 11 years old

Can you imagine that the girl studying in 8th standard can be the world's highest IQ (Intellegence Quotient) holder...? Yes, you read it right. The Indian girl named "K.Vaishalini" born in Thirunelveli, a small city of Tamil-Nadu state is that girl. (Her images are in front of you). She is a child prodigy(she is just 11 years old) blessed with exceptional computer and analytical skills. According to reports, her IQ stands at 225, which is considerably higher than the previous Guinness of world record holder, Kim Ung-Yong, whose IQ is approximately 210.

Her amazing Achievements:
  •  Vishalini’s IQ is around 225. It is higher than that of the Guinness record holder, Kim Ung-Yong,  whose IQ is around 210.
  •  She has passed Microsoft Certified Professional and Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) with more than 90% when she was just 10 years old - a world record again. (The previous record was held by a 12-year-old boy from Pakistan, Irtaza Haider)
  •  She regularly now gets invited for "guest lectures" on Engineering topics at International conferences and by prestigious institutions like National Institute of Technology
  • Both NITK of Mangalore and Kalasalingam Engineering College are now more than ready to welcome Vishalini. But her parents want the girl to enjoy her childhood for the next three years before thinking of entering a college campus.
  • As, she is just 11 years old, she is not allowed to enter herself in Guinness Book of World Record. Vaishalini needs to complete 14 of  her age to be in the list of World Records.
According to her family, she had speech impairment in the early childhood that caused a great concern of her family, her mother Mrs. Sethurakamalika says that “despite her blessed intelligence, Vishalini struggled to talk at her younger age and as per the consultancy given by a doctor, we interacted regularly with her and we could see some positive results in six months.”
Blase Yourself.!! Be proud to be Indian..!!!

India's youngest mobile app developers

Chennai's Shravan and Sanjay are probably the country's youngest mobile application developers and perhaps, one among the youngest developers around the world. They are brothers, Shravan is 12 year old studying 8th Grade and Sanjay is 10 year old studying 6th Grade. Already three of their apps are available for download on iPads and iPhones. The first is a game called "Catch Me Cop". There's an app for children to learn the alphabet and a prayers app for those on the move. The downloads have crossed the 10,000-mark with users from across thirty countries.

Their father Kumaran is an IT expert who introduced them to computers at an early age. What began as a hobby initially is now making money for them. Sanjay says the he and his brother were very excited when Apple accepted their game first. He says, "There are millions of apps in Apple stores. For me such a young developer to get my apps published, wow".

The budding techies say Steve Jobs and Bill Gates inspired them. They want to specialise in educational apps. Presently, they are developing an app for students who miss classes. Shravan Kumaran explains, "When students take leave for various reasons, this would record all class room activities and put it on the cloud. This would reach your device and you can watch the entire class room activity by the teacher, the exercises etc". Another app in the making is "mobile navigation for the visually challenged". Imagine the mobile phone giving voice alerts to a visually challenged person about the things around him or her! That's what they are working at.

The boys are aiming high. Their dream is to design the world's lightest tablet. They've launched a company called GoDimensions. Just like Bill Gates and Steve, both have earmarked a portion (fifteen percent) of their profits to charity, for the cause of children in particular.

These guys says on their site, "We like Cricket, Football, Computer games, Wii. We also like singing & playing KeyBoard."
